Case Study

Bob’s argument-driven website, built from nearly seven hours of interviews

How a Kumon owner on Long Island turned his own words into a website that makes his case.

Watch Bob walk through his website and how he talks about his business now

About 40 minutes. Bob tells his story first, and the website walkthrough starts at .

Bob Valenti runs a Kumon center on Long Island. Bob hired Billy to help him create an argument that would help him stand out from all the other franchises. They then turned it into a website, which you can see at breakthroughsbuiltdaily.com.

Almost every line on the site started as something Bob said out loud in an interview.

Families signed up without knowing what they were buying

Bob's center sells a program that is easy to mistake for tutoring. Parents would enroll, and a few months later their questions showed, in Bob's words, that "they didn't understand the product that they had purchased."

Then the appointments slowed, and every center looked the same

Early in 2026, Bob said, "we were not getting very many appointments booked." And as a franchisee, he couldn't simply change his website. Every Kumon center gets the same template, with only the banner at the top different.

First Bob and Billy built his Five Lightbulbs messaging map

Bob and Billy worked through his argument over nearly seven hours of interviews across five calls. He wrote essays to practice it. Almost all of the language came from him, and each of the Five Lightbulbs found its place in the map.

One example is his Lightbulb 3. Bob named what makes his program different “breakthrough mastery,” a term he had never used before he wrote the essay.

The line that came out in the third interview

Thirty-four minutes into their third interview, Billy asked Bob to fill in the blank: “Tutoring is blank. Kumon is blank.”

“Tutoring is reactive. Kumon is a habit.” — Bob Valenti, 34 minutes into the third interview (May 26, 2026)

Billy told him his hair stood up when he heard it, and that it might belong on his new homepage. Today it’s there: “The problem is that all three are reactive. Kumon is a habit.”

Nobody wrote that line at a desk. It was in Bob the whole time, and it took three and a half hours of questions to bring it out.

Then they turned the map into his website

His site opens with a note from the owner about homework taking two hours today and twenty minutes six months from now. It walks through what families try first: wait for the report card, sit down and help, hire a tutor. Then it makes the case for what Kumon does differently. Every Lightbulb has a place on the page, and you can spot them yourself.

Then Bob took the price out of the packet

Bob also rebuilt the packet he gives parents at orientation. He took the pricing out, because parents opened the folder and looked for the price before they listened to anything else. He told me he has been "getting a lot of people to say yes before even talking about the pricing."

“Sometimes people are sold and ready to sign up before we even get to that piece.” — Bob Valenti

August was his busiest month for appointments in a long while

In the interview, Bob said August was his busiest month for placement-test appointments in a long while:

“We had our busiest month for appointments booked… since, I’m gonna say, February of 2025.” — Bob Valenti

And now he never starts from a blank page

Bob writes something every week, and the map gives him plenty to write about. As he put it, "there's Five Light Bulbs and lots of ideas around each one."

Working with Billy one-on-one

This is the path Bob took. Billy interviews you at length, pushes back and stress-tests your argument the way a customer would, and then turns what you said into your website. The interviews are the work. The website is what they produce.
